You’ve heard before that Microsoft is planning to put the Windows 7 Starter Edition in netbooks and the company hopes that at least one version of the new Windows 7 will be the standard OS for most netbook manufacturers. Microsoft’s Director of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Mark Croft said the basic no frills version of Windows 7 could have $200 laptops available by this Christmas.

Although Microsoft is planning to have the Windows 7 Home Premium version default for netbooks, Croft did say that in the effort to drive price down, some netbook manufacturers are planning to have the bare minimum of the OS included in their models by the holidays. Merry Christmas, from Microsoft. It’s hard to believe it’s still March and we’re already excited for the holiday season.
